2010/2011 QGPHS year is being planned now.

The preparation for the 2010/2011 QGPHS year is well underway.  We are growing by about 200 to 250 more students.  Two to three new advanced placement classes are going to be added.  Lacrosse and swimming will be added to our sports offerings.  Work began today to widen Idlewild road out in front of the school to add turning lanes.  There will be new teachers joining the staff.  And as always, there is a new senior class.  Senior...start strong and finish strong.  You can't afford to easy up at any point.

History

The Fort Valley High and Industrial School, chartered in 1895, and the State Teachers and Agricultural College of Forsyth, founded in 1902, were consolidated in 1939 to form Fort Valley State College. It became Fort Valley State University in June 1996.
The only 1890 land grant school in Georgia, Fort Valley State University is a comprehensive institution providing an educational experience of exceptional quality. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the nation's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre campus is the second largest (in acreage) public university in the state.
The university's 3,500-plus students represent 130 of Georgia's 159 counties, more than 30 states and about 10 international countries. Ninety-four percent of the student body is African American. The average age is 24 for undergraduates and 33 for graduate students. About one-third of students live on campus, and 85 percent attend college full-time.
The university offers bachelor's degrees in more than 50 majors - education, business administration and agriculture are particularly popular - as well as master's degrees in education and counseling. In an effort to accommodate our graduate and non-traditional students, external degree program courses are also being offered at an off-campus site in Warner Robins.
Fort Valley State's Cooperative Developmental Energy Program (CDEP) is the only one of its kind in the nation, preparing students for energy-industry careers in science and geology.

Teaching Fellows History

Acknowledging that the quality of education in our public schools is determined by the quality of our educators, an ambitious teacher recruitment program, the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program, was enacted by the General Assembly in 1986. The mission of the program was, and continues to be, to recruit talented high school graduates into the teaching profession and to help them develop leadership qualities such as visionary thinking and risk-taking; qualities that have not, in the past, been valued in teachers. The Teaching Fellows Program challenges students to see beyond the classroom and to think about the connections of education to the quality of life and the economic survival of our state. The program has quickly become one of the most prestigious awards in North Carolina.

The Teaching Fellows Program was one of the components in a ten-point teacher recruitment proposal called "Who Will Teach Our Children." The proposal was developed by the Public School Forum of North Carolina, a nonprofit partnership of business, educational and political leaders from throughout North Carolina. The Forum staff administers the program while a Commission, appointed by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, President Pro Tem of the Senate, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, develops the policies and regulations governing the program.
